I did my G.C.E. Ordinary Level; International program in 2010. I was very much interested in English literature and decided to choose English literature for my G.C.E. Advanced Level Exam.⁣

My teachers and masters told me it was a crazy decision and I will fail the exam. I had no teachers to teach and I had to study by myself whole two years courses.⁣

Most of my friends said drop the course, and come back to study with them; Sinhalese and Sinhalese literature. But, I thought I am not going to live here in Sri Lanka for my whole life. If so the facto; what am I going to the with Sinhalese and its literature?⁣

So I decided not to change my mind.

Even though most of my teachers and friends demotivated me to quit, but I was so positive “I can do it myself, and I am going to study so hard. I am going to prove to them that I can do it.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Next. I bought three dictionaries; dictionaries in English literature; Sarasavi Dictionary and philosophy. I started memorizing English words; five hundred words a day (even I forgot most of the words now).⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I started reading Shakespeare’s “Mid-summer night dreams, The merchant of Venice, SONNETS, Great Expectations, Sense and Sensibility and, Pride and Prejudice Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I even memorized whole books, read dozens of criticism books on them. I made and memorized them.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In 2012, I sat for the exam and passed the test with 2 As and 1 B.

In 2011 I participated in the national and International English-speaking contests in Sri Lanka and won the first prizes. I won second prize in the contest organized by American Embassy.⁣

I was telling stories in Sri Lankan national and international schools.⁣

At the end of 2012, I decided and returned back to Nepal.⁣

Hundreds of students came to meet me and talk to me. They also brought gifts. Most of them brought pens, pencils, and notebooks. When I counted, the pens only were around 3000. I am not joking. It is true.⁣

The reason I was doing what I was doing was because of my attitude. The attitude that I can do it. The positive attitude.

I also studied Sanskrit until G.C.E Ordinary Level Exam. Sanskrit is very common for Nepalese and Indians. So, I could understand and speak a bit of it.⁣

At the end of every year, the Sri Lankan government organize contests in various of education; speaking, debating, and writing.⁣

In 2010 I had joined the debating contest in Sanskrit.⁣

District level; we won and got a chance to go for the national level.

There were five best teams from five districts. I was from Gampaha District. Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka and, they had the best Sanskrit speakers; most of them were Nepalese and Indians. ⁣

Everybody thought they were talented and, they will win the competition. But, they lost. The team from the Galle was won.⁣

The reason, one of the best teams lost is because of their arrogant and negative attitude “we’re the best. No team can win us.”⁣

John C. MAXWELL says “attitude is much more important than the talents, skills, and abilities.”⁣
